For me this story is all about different forms of love
Subaru x Asahi = family love
Fuuka x Asahi = unrequited love
Fuuka x Hinako = friend(?) love
Hinako x Asahi = requited love
It made me feel like a doughnut but with filling inside now!

Thumbs up from me

Just a couple aroace lesbians living their best lives. A beautiful happy ending that gives me more hope for a well constructed ending to Usui Shio's current work Trying Out Marriage With My Female Friend

I really hope this ages well. If anyone sees this after it ends tell me what you think lol

They wouldn't be lesbians if they were aroace though, don't you just call them ace lesbians? Either way, a sweet ending to a sweet story ha :)

Guess it depends on how you define it and how people want to identify. They are obviously past the point of being platonic, but they say that neither of them are interested in "the stuff lovers normally do" including kissing and affection. In my mind, those are more in the realm of romance than sex since you don't need to be horny to kiss someone romantically, y'know?

Gender and sexuality are such personal experiences, though, that I think it's generally fine to disagree on the finer details of how labels are defined

? I agree, but aroace means asexual and aromantic no? So, as you say, they wouldn't be aromantic since they confessed their love for each other, but they have indeed said they aren't interested sexually therefore they are ace I'd say. But yeah whatevs lol.

Oh, come on. They didn't even get a kiss or being much affectionate in that way together. This feels like they are just friends that actually followed up on the good old "if you can't married, I'm gonna being with you for the rest of our life" purely out of friendship. A bit messed up down the line if they insist tacking "lovers" over something like that.

my feelings on this ending were super mixed at first but after thinking about it more i definitely like it a lot. i think it's probably the first manga i've read that has aro/ace characters but still follows the model of a typical romance and has the characters end up together at the end.

the ending initially felt really unsatisfying but i've realized that i probably just feel that way because the type of feelings the main pair have for eachother aren't ones that i personally relate to and don't match what i myself would want in a relationship. thinking about it further though, the ending absolutely aligns with the core message of the story, that you don't need a traditionally romantic or sexual relationship to be happy or fulfilled. the build up felt natural too, it wasn't a bait-and-switch gal pals ending or anything like that, by the final volume (and honestly way earlier than that) it was very clear what direction the story was going in and it never tries to mislead the reader, it's always very upfront about the fact that the main duo are in love but not sexually attracted to eachother. so it was kinda my fault for applying my normal expectations towards the ending and it made me realize how pessimistic i actually am in regards to non-romantic endings in gay stories lol

apart from that i just really enjoyed the emphasis the story places on the comfort found in other people, i love the whole bit with hinako and asahi telling eachother "you're always welcome to run away here" because while they're talking about their actual physical homes literally speaking, the implied meaning there is obv that they themselves can always provide a feeling of home for eachother given the comfort they feel in eachother's presence. which is just a really sweet message and one that resonated with me a lot.

overall very unique series, asexual characters in romance manga are a rare thing so it was really cool to experience a story with such a heavy focus on the characters coming to terms with that and with being in love despite lacking the physical attraction that usually defines a relationship. it felt nice to have a semi-platonic ending that was actually for the sake of representation and made total sense for the story rather than the stereotypical shoehorned gal pals ending.

2 for 2 so far fr. Trying out Marriage with my Female Friend was also a good read. I felt nice reading them and still feel warm n' fuzzy after their endings =v= It'd be nice if I could find love like these women too, staying hopeful I too can be included in the happiness everyone else seems to find a. Been feeling real awkward at times as an ace spec goofball who's never truely liked a soul in my proximity. Seeing these characters find so much joy in just enjoying time and cherishing eachother has been really warming to scroll through. I relate with Hinako a lot in the way that she felt insecure about not looking for a partner because her mom was pressuring her. Even after she realized she was okay with loving herself and being her own bestie- that's still always an issue in the back of your mind till you communicate properly with your loved ones. I need to do that too but it's hard,, I'd probably not muster the courage till I found someone- cause I most definitely would speak up in their defense, like Himeko did.
Anyway, great story. 10/10 cause I relate to being sapphic ace and love to see the rep

They show lots of affection!
What the fork?!
Do you know what “affection” means?! No. You do not.

They’re pretty clearly romantically attracted to each other. This follows the exact patterns, thought processes and feelings of any more typical romance.

“Lesbian” means “woman who is attracted sexually and/or romantically, exclusively, to other women”.

Pretty simple.
Otherwise it would not be useful to those who fit the above definition, as they cannot be the same orientation as one who does not fit that criteria.

Because the relationship didn't follow the "normal" route, just the exact same way every other "unconventional" relationships in fiction usually go isn't the same. quote /s unquote
