So this really ended after 521 chapters?
The experience was fun but based on some comments I've read here and in other places it's not a great adaptation of the novel. I wouldn't call it bad, 'objectively' it's between average and good (almost great) but I want to rate it much higher. Since I read this over a year my memory isn't the best but not terrible as I do remember most of the arcs but not their details.
The plot is pretty basic (with a reasonable amount of bullshit) once you read a couple of arcs but still interesting enough to keep me reading. I think the early part, parts of the middle and maybe the second last arc are more repetitive in a lot ways despite the changes in setting, level/rank, resources, alliances, etc. fundamentally it's the same thing happening again and again with a change in side characters, setting, objectives, etc. but it's not entirely repetitive because there are a few interesting things that happen. MC's main strategy is to blow up himself along with his enemies.
I thought the comedy was pretty good and it's my favourite thing about this and manhua in general. I've heard that a lot of the comedy was added and enhanced in the manhua which apparently makes it less serious? Along with some other changes.

Umm... That that happens and gets discussed/revealed later in chapter 183 but in the manhua there's no "action" and they just say some of his non-genetic stuff got mixed up with some other ingredients in a pot and with essence flame that cooks up lil' Cai in Medusa. yeah...
I did enjoy most of the badass and hype moments. Especially towards the end.
I'm actually fine with most of the time skips because you get used to them after like the second one but few of them still surprised me.
The quality drops a lot in the early-middle part but the art gets much better after that.
I feel like those final 40 chapters take forever and get confusing but maybe that's because I read them over 40 weeks?
Some of the dynamics changing feel weird like I thought the Gu clan was supposed to be big and scary but most of that disappears in one chapter. The protagonist and main antagonists always have one bullshit trick up their sleeves.
As for the ending:
It was alright but felt a little anticlimactic. We don't get to see any kind of marriage with the love interests other than a line of dialogue saying Xiao Yan went on a honeymoon with Xun'er. In the last chapter, 4 others also become Dou Di months after Xiao Yan releases the Origin Qi (off-screen) allowing future generations to also reach that level. Which is cool but then it just ends with sequel bait.
Also the thing with Xiao Cai is just kinda forgotten even though she levelled up when Xiao Yan ascended because they are related by blood!
Overall it's a lot of fun, entertaining for the most part if you overlook the repetitiveness but this manhua isn't one with a great story that will change your life (you can still look for and find a deeper message like be careful and kind) and the ending is just kinda alright.
It's a classic. Definitely feels like some things were just skipped.
Maybe I should get into the novel or donghua to get a real taste?
