The editor reminds me of my art teacher back in secondary school. He was a complete asshole for a students first 3 years, so as to scare away anyone who was likely to slack off or not take art seriously. That way anyone who was left when the subject was no longer compulsory was some who cared about the subject, at which point he became a lot nicer.
