This is the second time Bulma shown she lacked some general knowledge despite being a genius. In Dragon Ball, she didn't know what a mummy was and now she's never heard of asexual reproduction.

It's not too crazy for one reason, their power excceeds Goku's "power" when he initially crossed. Goku crossed Snakeway with around 400 "power" in 177 days, a little under half a year. His return trip took only a day after he trained with King Kai.
After training with Kami, the Z fighters showed they could handily beat the Saibamen who had around 1,200-1,500 "power".
So, it makes sense it only took them about a month. "" because power levels are a pretty vague concept.
