In retrospect, if he had saved Gohan, Kid Buu would have been no threat.

This chapter basically shows that Goku insist that he will take others and vegeta to teleport, but he then grabs Satan and Dende instead, to which Vegeta is noticeably surprised. This is very detailed. It shows that everything is moving too fast for goku to save everyone, and if Vegeta were to grab the others, he would be gone.
Anime sorta missed that.

IIRC, somewhere during the Frieza arc, Vegeta noted that you shouldn't try to gauge someone's power by their looks.
