OBVIOUSLY the kingdom is using a classic Dwarf Fortress Strategy. Where you assign a dwarf to bookkeeping and through constantly moving massive stacks of books/ paper work, beef up their strength stat faster than even mining! Obviously

We are pretty clearly missing something because I don't think Lienna has appeared strong enough to warrant another nation holding off on invading. Lienna's own recollection is that she never fought on the frontline so either she's lying to us the reader for no particular reason or she did something casually that instilled fear in the other nations.

Was Claire that same girl that kept Lienna from living a normal life? I mean I guess I like that she got murked and the whole country is gonna be destroyed. It just feels kind of anticlimactic. Presumable the knights that got killed were the strongest below Lienna but like if they're not that strong how could Lienna be strong or be trained to be that strong. Lienna has been swamped in paper work since becoming the commander and doesn't have time to train. How could she possibly have gotten stronger or stayed as strong as before under these circumstances?
Lienna was willing to take on the dragon by herself, and in Chp 1 implied she would've at least been able to get away if she wasn't sleep deprived. She also single handedly pulled out the sea monster, tanked an attack and then cut its leg off. And she did that while still being rusty and out of practice from only doing desk work.

Claire wasn't keeping her from living a normal life. You can see that Lienna joined up as an apprentice while really young, and that both she and Claire are already wearing the same uniform. Becoming the knight commander was also Lienna's goal, not something pushed onto her by Claire.
And if the knight commander was such a strong and amazing deterrent, why the fuck would the rest of the knights badmouth her? Though judging by the boy's reaction when the elf mentioned that, seems none of them ever thought that far. Right. Further establishes the fact that they're all idiots.
When you see your boss only ever in the office and never do any "real" work, you're going to think they're just there for appearances sake, it's that easy. Made worse if you think the office job is easy and your boss doesn't ever sweat.
I mean, the country is stupid right? Not having your Decisive Weapon aka Knight Commander properly taken care of.. or even supported with men is just stupid. Who the heck sent their S-rank hero alone without at least assistant or supervision?
The noble that's overall in charge of the order is shown to be slacker at best, incompetent at worst.
Alright then.
1. we know that the forces were poorly prepared on the invasion.. like someone said in here they didn't think that they would be attacked and somehow slacked off. Hell they waited TOO long to find an acting knight commander.
Not invasion, not yet at least. It was a recon in force. Instead of purely scouting with light infantry, you bring enough power to cause havoc and hit targets of opportunity, but not so much power that mobility is lost.

Does this mean our girl is gonna leave the dragon in the end to join her country again? Or the squire boy is gonna enter the dragon?

A lot of mangas that have the neglected strong character is gone and things start collapsing plot, but I wasn't expecting this level of consequences from her disappearance. Usually it is the level of people realizing how much they needed the missing person and/or a department/party/etc collapsing without them. Even with ones that have the country start going downhill after usually focus on showing the nobility/royalty falling. They only show people getting their deserved punishment in that regard. This one showing the larger consequences in terms of villages getting destroyed and regiments getting slaughtered is probably the more likely consequence of one person you were neglecting/abusing turned out be holding up your entire country, but feels like such a large tonal shift because isn't waht usually see in this type of manga and conflicts with the now good times happening in the dragon's stomach so much.

It isn't just a matter of straight power, as everyone appears to be assuming: Training schedules, troop movements, requisition orders, intelligence gathering, the list goes on. Lienna wasn't so much the country's deterrent as she was the system managing the deterrence, which is actually the combination of all forces.

Publishing her disappearance for any Tom, Dick, and Harry to read about was just boneheaded. That would be like the Times publishing an article with the headline "ALL KEYS TO NUCLEAR LAUNCH CONTROL LOST".

They grew fat and lazy from their comforts, for they knew not how truly outmatched they were...

  • Armor, acquired at the best possible quality for the cheapest possible prices
  • Weapons, enough to use like cheap throwing knives against entire armies
  • Secure planning, with regiments and defenses tailored especially to each leader under her command
  • Budgets and pay well above what can be considered average, even against her own paycheck

She was a flawless leader, twisted and tattered like a cheap doll, only to be snatched away by the cruel hunger of fate and forced to retire early. Shame that her kingdom is likely to die with her vacant position.
Good leaders man.

Also she was strong

the dynamic duo, shota and a big woman

apparently our protag who only push papers is actually a calamity strong to keep other nations from attacking?

Which begs the question, if her role is a nation-level deterrent, wouldn't you want to treat them better? Give them aides for the paperwork and stuff.

Unless she can teleport too, the Ardian kingdom is pretty much done for, that's pretty much all their top military commanders dead and or missing

We only see a little of Linna actual power, but damn those vice commanders sure are weak. The power gap is too jarring. I just wish by the time Linna out of dragon innards adventures and the black armies still around, she just mops the floor with them and not blaming she's being rusty again or some other shonen manga bullshit cliche.

I really hope for a good comeuppance for Linna sake, but reading so many isekai fantasy manga, the nobles would just throw their ultimate weapon to frontier town or abuse them so much they break. Again.

Damn, didn't expect my wish to come this soon. So our MC is actually holding the entire Kingdom herself, huh? Give it to the Nobility to f everything up.
