dragons aren't bound by time, and the afterlife pretty much is dragons carrying you over the mountain wall (I think), and Kovalsky used the process to prevent Queen Himi from ever being captured by humans, and without her, there's no heart to build Saito with, causing all the recent events to be undone (which is why Mr. Ren also didn't have the horn wound)
