Harutaka fulfils his plot reason as well, and, contrary to the trope (of course - as I've been saying for ages, Enomoto is paying homage to the tropes, not actively using them), is actually a good friend to Ban, helping her get over her trauma. Of course he shoots his shot, but then again, the guy also needs his closure lol

I do find him insufferable too, maybe by design (as a character). It's rather annoying that he can go from acknowledging his parting shot was untoward and still wanting a relationship after having said something hurtful, even if unknowingly. I dunno, it comes off as gross to me, or a little manipulative to prioritize their own feelings in fulfilling their desires in how they define their life goal at that moment. He did own up to his blunder even if he views it as a "too mature" act on his part, i still find it annoying though.
