In Japanese she's complaining about people who use the word "aikata". It's similar in that it literally means partner and it's a word for lover that some young people are using that some others find annoying. However unlike "partner" in English it isn't associated with homosexuality or political views. So changing it for non-censorious reasons seems pretty understandable because the original translation has misleading associations that don't reflect the Japanese text.

In English people will call their spouses, 'partner' or 'significant other,' without being gay, and similarly, it's a modern trend that some people find annoying.

Okay I’ve been seeing a lot of people label this as racist or other things but as an artist who has created stories I just want to say creatives write stories about things we may not personally believe in. I have a Mormon character I’m an atheist who does not like Mormonism and find it kind of culty. One of my favorite ocs is a mad scientist kinda Frankenstein dude who has a eugenics view on the world. I don’t believe in his views and I find eugenics horrible but in a creative space one can take a look on these things and explore them. Getting offended by the exploration using silly looking aliens who get away with murder is just not the thing to be mad about. Sry this got kinda long T-T

Just ignoring the whole "baseless hatred" thing for a moment:

No, I think she does have a properly established motivation for killing the aliens. Remember, she doesn't see aliens as people in the first place, so she has absolutely no moral compunctions to "murdering" them. Also, having just been fired, she's screwed in terms of getting money, she doesn't exactly have a lot to lose. Oh, and finally, Kitami seems to basically be her only friend. They bonded over their shared feeling of being sane in an insane world, why wouldn't she value their budding friendship?

Another thing don’t underestimate the absolute rage of a pissed off woman who doesn’t care anymore I saw a 87 year old grandma flip an entire table cause a man at the nursing home made a “joke” about her granddaughters body

In case you missed the entire plot, aliens are generally assholes. It has nothing to do with sexism.

No I know that but I was just referring to the specific scene in her work as a woman who works I felt a connection to her being mistreated

That being said: interesting manga, the art is also good. Hope the author doesn't drop the ball midway through.

As an American I agree lol just want to apologize on behalf of the weirdos but I will say even if a manga or book may not have a specific meaning a part of literature and reading is applying it to your life your worldview that’s part of being literate. Even if the application or understanding is wrong that’s fine applying media to real life is a good thing now some take it to far but still it’s a good brain exercise and helps comprehension of the world around you

If this is meant to be an analogy to real life, it would clearly be talking about the US's influence on Japan. Outsiders "save" Japan from destruction, completely change Japanese culture, and the entire nation is compelled to act like they're meant to be worshipped. I could absolutely see an individual in Japan feeling that way.

That aside, I think there's also some writing influence here from Kill la Kill's story in regards to the aliens here.

These people scream "ALL ART IS POLITICAL (in the broadest sense)" to justify shoving politics "in the most narrow, partisan sense" into literally everything and then have a month long meltdown because a manga basically says "Yeah we're tired of asshole foreigners", because now putting politics into something is a step too far.

You love to see it. Maybe don't be so fucking obnoxious next time you have the cultural zeitgeist.

You really don't need to apologize to people who wish to ban someone else based on nationality from the internet.
