While I get that the real reason why the MC knows so little about magic is so that we readers can get the exposition dump, it's a bit odd that this guy who's wanting to inherit his parents' magic shop, has been working there his whole life, and is the son of a genius mage, knows next to nothing about magic at all. Is the magic shop pure retail, or summat?
