And even in this chapter, Kanae got 20 million yen for selling two properties, meaning that watch could buy four properties.

It's called a sense of value. It might seem like a waste of money to you, but for her, it lifted her spirits and made her day. That's what she values, and there's nothing wrong with that. No one is at fault for having different values, but it's ALWAYS wrong to judge people based on that alone.

As for Hiroyuki, he acknowledged his own bad habits, openly talked about his mistakes, and made an effort to improve. I think that's genuinely praiseworthy.

And honestly, I think things like this are especially important for people in demanding creative jobs like them. Not everything has to be judged through your worldview. Let the author cook. You might learn something new.
