False, 99% of the population liked alcohol through out history, and thats why we have alcohol culture all over the world without cultural exchanges. Alcohol also reoccur in nature in accidental outcome and its liked even by animals like wolves and monkeys.
Alcohol consumption begun decreasing since the invention of cheaper non-alcoholic substitute like coca cola and only begun happening since modern age(before tea and coffee culture)(due to wide spread alcohol harm knowledge). Since ancient civilization to WW1(before soft drink), Alcohol was the number one type of beverage consumed in the world(even minors drink) and is hailed as sacred water in multiple cultures.

That was due to the fact that a lot of water wasn't safe to drink. Alcohol is a lot safer to drink than dirty water and that's why our culture became so heavily involved with drinking. In a magic world where they have purification spells and can easily purify and get clean water they would not have developed so much of a drinking culture as we have.
