The other reason is telling Ame he loves her, literally ends Ame’s existence.

If he was to keep Ame, he would have to traumatize and push away Sora, and probably Ame too, to have both of them still there.

The problem is that the manga got us emotionally attachted to Ame in the last 21 chapters, while almost nothing for Sora. So most of us, even the author or the MC, wouldn't really appreciate her disappearing.
