As more food for thought... If there was no possibility of getting stronger as a result of participating, it sounds like a bad deal. That's below U.S.'s minimum wage, and that's what people can get for jobs that don't involve you risking your life. This job would involve actual danger, so there needs to be some sort of hazard pay to compensate for the extra risk.
But if you factor in stuff like getting special abilities from participating, that could be viewed as adequate compensation since it's an exclusive perk of this job. And if those abilities help her live longer than if she didn't have them, then it probably is worth it.
