I've read the WN. It's a decent story, though the author bias as a japanese rears its head a lot of time, particularly when illustrating the fictional equivalent to America and Korea.

I enjoyed the LN although the whole Joker thing was not to my taste

No a masterpiece, but a decent burger.

My biggest complaint is the inconsistency with the "real" behaviour of a player who would really want to optimise a game.

He draws conclusions only from level 1 data, claiming that slowly improving is optimal. But he spends/waste weeks and weeks killing goblins, without any information on how later levels scale.

ALso I don't really understand some of the changes compared to the LN. Without spoiling more than the first chapter.
In the novel,
He starts off much fatter and gets thinner from all the months he's been training in the dungeon. It's a good symbol of his methodical and constan hardworking way of life.

Is he just going to ignore the bombshell ninja girl begging for the D forever? He's a grown man, not the typical shy virgin high schooler.

My biggest complaint is that he wasted a lot of time in real world.
I read some comments on other manga viewing page that reasoning is that TAXES, GOVERNMENT INSPECTION and OTHER BS.
Dude has a private consulting company and option to launder the money so instead of wasting his time in real world he could waste that time getting better. There are multiple ways to set up seamingly legit businesses as long as you have money pipeline (which seems is the case since it was somewhat cleared that money isn't counterfeit).

By the point i've read he wasted 90 freaking days and now governments are getting ready to implement "adventure" profession. He could even freeze his company for a short time and use that money for day to day activity, since Japan is still using a lot of paper money compared to some other advanced countries he could easily buy groceries and other "STUFF" via money from the dungeon whilst using bank account money for utilities.
Government would not start investigating you as soon as you get some suspicious money, usually it is done at some point during the year where governments need your yearly income declaration OR when police investigation investigates some people.

But to be a devils advocate it is not known in manga (maybe LN has more info) how much time he wasted on his ordinary job maybe all those 90 days he wasted to setting up his new venture.
