Yeah, it's probably because the MC haven't actually played the game yet so he only knew it through PVs and strategy guide. And also, his goal is to become one of the strongest in the academy unlike many other MCs who aimed to live normal life or avoid "death flags" without interfering with the main plot of the game.

and also the fact that the main cast is just pathetically weak and getting pulverize for a dozen time (100% not following the script) but MC don't even try to help them and using "the script" to justify his cowardness : ))

both are valid in their own context, both are flawed too, but i'd like to think that avalon is building up to something massive, and is using these moments of mc just spectating to build the world right, it becomes less of a self insert and more of a trashy fantasy (neither are good or bad, it just depends on author's writing capability... and i think avalon still has the edge there)
