I'm still questioning whether Irene was raped by Al or not, because it seems she implies that she willingly gave herself to Blum ... implying that she also had to give herself to Al unwillingly? That, or it's a translation issue. I hope it's a translation issue. It would be kind of bullshit if he did rape Irene, as the later chapters shows his relationship with the queen and princess.
