@tgb089 - I'd say eating sapient beings is bad, even if they're biologically very far from you. For the same reasons as cannibalism.
Of course, if you're so bad you don't mind cannibalism, eating other kinds of sapient life is fine too.
Fish-type merfolk are clever enough to use tools, which puts them in "sapient beings" category, so eating them is bad.

Cannibalism is bad because of the prion protein which can fuck up a lot of bodily functions including your brain. Eating intelligent beings may be considered morally wrong but unless they're closely related to your own species (even apes should be safe to eat afaik) it's perfectly safe.

@flannan Crows and monkeys are known to use stones and sticks as tools. Eating a monkey? Maybe demi-human. Eating a bird? Definitely not demi-human.

Are those fishhthingies eggs considered demi-human tho? I mean they're fish-like eggs and not fetuses so I'd consider them not.

in the stupid disney 's cartoon the little mermaid : the mermaids have scales like fishes .

in real life and in this manga : mermaids are mammals so they have bare skins , like dugongs and dolphins .

note that laios doesnt recognize a human , but he recognizes a beast-man immediately , because he loves monsters .

having a beast-man in your party is lucky , because when there is no more food , you can eat the beast-man , lol .

Part of it is that the water made the corpse swell up to be unrecognizable--that's why chil couldn't identify him either. But, we can see that the kobold's face didn't swell like the human's did

Physically there's nothing wrong with eating sentient beings not related to you. Morally? Are they as smart as an octopus? Like if they are as smart as humans, then it's morally wrong.

I'm going to refrain from eating crows, just to be sure.
Well, it's not that much of a commitment. Where I live, there's plenty of crows, but nobody eats them. Even people who hunt them out of racist hatred.

Sometimes… this manga takes a dark turn… they are eating what amounts to the unborn fetuses of sapient creatures >_>
