Honestly Bete is kinda based. He’s sort of like Bells foil in a way, he knows only the strong should be in the dungeon in the first place and doesn’t help others. Which is completely true, like why risk your life exploring a dungeon when you could just get a normal job and have a normal life and why is it his job to protect these people that chose to be there. I like him as a character because he feels like one of the few realistic characters in the manga that isn’t just a trope.

Sadly because this is a manga they will give him a sad backstory and a redemption arc to fully evolve him into a predictable cliche like most of the other characters. Too bad.

Wow, surprised they didn't kick Bete out for that. Being a Tsundere and having trouble expressing your real feelings is no excuse for acting that way. If you're not man enough to say that you're sad because you hate it when people you like die, then you're not strong, you're weak.

Also, weakness is a relative thing. There are so many people and monsters that are stronger than Bete, and HE has to have the advantage of numbers to beat them, meaning that all of his talk of "weak" and "strong" is worthless unless he's willing to fight people and things many times stronger than himself and risk losing or dying constantly himself, but then like all hypocrites, he'd just say something stupid like, "Not fighting things way too strong for you isn't weak or cowardly, it's smart." as if all the people he belittles who are doing the same thing aren't also being smart instead of weak or cowardly.

Whatever his reasons, whatever his intentions, whatever his "tragic" past was, the fucking bastard dog has no right to treat others that way. In my eyes he has only shown that he is a tantrum child, a coward who does not dare to face his own fears and accept his suffering. He says that he is strong? Bullshit!!! He doesn't reply to the captain, nor does he go and confront the "truly strong ones". First that he defeats Othar alone, or that he defeats the dragon that killed Aiss's parents... then he can boast of being strong.
