@ryouhira Bete. Esdeath was a psychopath purely for the sake of being a psychopath. She just enjoyed the death and slaughter. Bete on the other hand is just an ass. He doesn't actually enjoy acting like that it's just a self defense mechanism and the fact that he's hopelessly socially inept. You may notice that Bete never lays a finger on his allies, with the intention of causing harm, except Tiona & Tione. And they're both on his level and give as good as they get.

It seems to me that Bete's aggression towards those that are weaker than him is a coping mechanism. It formed from the trauma he endured as a child when his tribe was wiped out. He may seem to be some feral brute, but on the inside he's still the little pup who witnessed the carnage of his tribes slaughter. At the moments that he's close to revealing the inner pup, or is put into an emotional situation, he lashes out. Just my two cents.
