It's always funny how it goes like "The monsters killed my parents, destroyed our village, etc. They can't ever be forgiven and must be eliminated" while at the same time the adventurers wander into the dungeon every day to slay countless monsters to harvest resources. But I suppose that's how it goes. In order to continue the life of adventurers and the economy of the whole city, average people must absolutely stick to that notion. There could always be outliers, who would have their own struggles but continue nonetheless (if they can continue), but as Finn noted, that won't work for the masses.

That’s not a really fair comparison though. You have to remember that regular monsters in Danmachi are really just that, monsters who actively seeks out and attack humans. Before babel was built and adventurers suppressed the monsters by killing them in the dungeon, the monster used to swarm out of the dungeon and massacred people across the lands. It’s not like they are just wild animals, there is literally no way to coexist.

Yeah, basically a group of monsters somehow became sapient. The rest are still fair game, as they are are stock monsters. The problem is one that happens whenever you encounter an aberration to a race/society/etc that is usually stock evil (like Drizzt and Dark Elves). Also, how to tell the difference. You don't want 2nd guessing in a life or death situation, being attacked by a normal monster.

Also, this is not to be confused with 'demi-humans' that humans haven't yet agreed aren't monsters. That one is usually more of a chicken and egg issue ("you act like monsters so we treat you like them!" "no, we act like bandits to your people because you've given us no choice and treat us as such regardless of our actions" or societies with incompatible "acceptable" behaviors)

It's easier to imagine the normal monsters as a type golem that the dungeon spawns since they all have a core (the crystal) and a basic programing
