That's the crux for me. If he always spawned back at that same original moment, it's either the stake becomes too high at this point to lose everything and go back once again - story will go no where; or, the stake now becomes nothing because we'll just get a time skip to him getting back to some point of the story instead. His death will becomes meaningless.
