It's a pity that all of that was pretty fruitless. But he seemed too strong, that was wayyy too big of a power up, so losing it, but aknowleding a way to get stronger is a pretty good way for the stroy to progress further.
That powerup isn't that big. Sure, he's probably the strongest on the ninth floor now, but even so, he's barely anything compared to the beings on the lower floors.
