I checked again the 1st chapters to see how Singh acted against his father.
He didn't show any special pleasure, and clearly said it was dictated to him. So maybe in the end he's actually conspiring against the hero's minister in his own way. Did dirty things as a soldier but didn't agree to them and want that to change now.
