I'd much rather have it be be mandatory labelling if it's mtl so we can decide if we want to read it or not
Though I do really hate mtl in manga scanlation though
The other things I hate are
People translating from a translation of the original into English because you loose meaning that way
Scanlators culturally erasing things from Japanese and Japan in the translation in favour of things like "let's eat" for Itadakimasu when Itadakimasu means "thanks for the food" which is a small bit of culture in the Japanese language
Scanlators removing Japanese / Japan's culture in favour of making it easier to understand instead of just leaving it as it is and providing a translation note
Bigots being scanlators
Scanlators inserting their own opinions into and / or gatekeeping / "fixing" the manga they are scanlating
Scanlators giving Japanese people in manga who don't have standard Tokyo dialect Irish, Scottish, southern, etc because not only is it a pain to read, you also have to look up whatever something means in Irish, Scottish and southern and the fact that they're Japanese, not Irish, Scottish or southern. Just change the text to italic, bold, bold italic or some other font and issue some translator note
