Yeah, I get that. But it's not even trying to give the other girls a chance. I think it was on chapter one he said something like not being able to feel much of anything or something? And he reacts to his former enemy just like that and coupled with what I assume the usual brand of denseness with how he just casually blurts out to "teach her what love is" despite supposedly having additional experience from his previous life (unless of course previous life didn't have interactions at all, just constant training and stabbing without any need to coordinate with others) paints a character, if even if confessed to, despite all developments with said girl would chalk it up to "nah, couldn't be".

Just a bit of a pet peeve of mine. With how some characters are written right at the start that somewhat sets the pattern to how the story and relationships will likely unfold.

Well I agree and hope it doesn't turn into a dishonest harem where the author pretends anyone else matter, hopefully they are good characters and not just wrenches in the way.
