Probably bad planning.
The multiple girls looks like he did plan it for harem situation.
But the novel only got to volume 2, and that only managed to shove in the plot about his childhood friend.
Personally I think it should have finished in volume 1, leaving the harem part never developed beyond simply introducing.

His other series got much better execution.

Hmmm well, a rom com with a little twist (though not a entirely original, just uncommon) - The girls are fairly cute and likeable while the MC is.....apparently neutered from his previous life.

Which just makes you feel bad for any woman in this guys life, its like being madly in love with a gay guy who wont tell you hes gay. Not to mention the curse bit completely sidelines any other girl that shows up unless its permanently dealt with and not a 'weekly treatment' thing.
