the sticks represent a number. Putting it horizontally or vertically adds extra digits in base 2, I think. Everything else is almost exactly regular calculus, like square roots or delta

my first impression was that it would be Margaret, but after looking it up, it seems Magritte was how it should be read. i meant to use that throughout the chapter, but somehow i must've accidentally merged the names because i was so set on Margaret when i translated it.
either way, i'm gonna go fix that now.
