I get that the author is setting something up but this is such a weird teaser. Why would a friend not tell their friend that the person working with them has something off with their body. Even if you think they already know, still just tell her to confirm and make sure everything's okay. I thought her asking for upgraded tobacco was just a way to make them stay longer and get a feel for what was going on, so again why would she NOT bring anything up about? She could have just pulled her off to the side and talked about. Why even mention it to yourself if you want tell the people involved. The friend last (or was it a couple?) chapter noticing more monsters attacking them and not ssyjng anything seemed reasonable because they were in a life or death situation and analysis like that wasn’t his area so he thought it was just a trick of the mind or a coincidence. But here, the shaman should brought it up and at least said in private that she felt something was off with his body (then we could have gotten an “I already know” or something). This is like when a character starts bringing up their life story without being asked and then says “I shouldn’t be talking about this; it doesn’t matter to you”, THEN DON’T FREAKING BRING IT UP IN THE FIRST PLACE!
