Yeah, I'm with you on that. He at first thought it was a hallucination, but seashells Nyu gave him regained the memory.

But still, they would have been cops trying to bring a runaway back to home from possible abduction.

I usually try to give the "cookie-cutter nice guy dark-hair" male protagonists in anime and manga a break... But this is just silly. Kouta didn't even try to ask the professor to see some form of ID or whatever — anything, really! Some form of way to prove that the professor wasn't just talking straight out of his ass, especially considering all the crazy shit that's been happening to Lucy since they first met her! Police conducting investigations about her, fucking SWAT teams attacking not just her — but also him and Yuka to apprehend Lucy! How clueless do you have to be to not even try to verify the truthfulness of the professor's claim? For a defenseless girl that can't even speak or understand others that well at that! Someone he's been living with for months, someone he's gotten close to enough that he would shed tears after seeing her leave! This guy's even denser than how they usually come, Aono Tsukune from Rosario Vampire is way better than Kouta to me so far.
