Blind AND lost all his teeth. In that day and age, it's a fate worse than death.
being blind royal sucks, losing your teeth just condemns you to eat liquid or pre-cut/mashed foods for the rest of your life.
All in all, That wouldn't be all that bad in modern times, but in a fantasy setting, it would suck
a lot more if you live alone without a caretaker.
That said, IDK if I would say being blind and toothless is "worse then death".
You could, even back in medical times ( which is our equivalent in technology level minus magic) still have a decent life being blind,
unless you were dirt poor which he clearly wasn't.
So I don´t think it would be "worse than death" at least not by itself...
Considering he was confirmed as a criminal and a liar to boot that tried to frame an innocent man, he probably wouldn't get much better prison food then gruel anyways...
If he is kept alive at all that is, The sad fact is he probably is just going to get executed for what he did anyway once he is judged for his crimes.
