What "nobility's unity?"
It's ridiculous how self-entitled those nobles are, when they are actually dependent on the temple.
They don't actually have power over the temple.
The temple only helped them out of goodwill, after all.
Can't they see that the temple can simply stop helping?

Ikr? When I read that "nobility's unity" I was thinking all they're doing is submitting requests, what does it actually impact? The requests can easily be ignored, and they were.

They are probably under the assumption of mob mentality, that if the temple receives enough pressure and criticism from nobles that they will eventually have to bend the knee. Maybe going as far as using the pretext of their request being ignored to escalate the situation and attempt to get the Royal Family involved.

Just your usual politics, where they will probably try to attack the Saint's authority by saying she is not properly carrying out her public duties, resulting in potential funding being cut-off from the temple via taxes and going back into the pockets of the nobles they were originally lining.

Seeing as the Saint is looking into a way to reform the tax methods, she may use the pretext of helping the commoners/orphans as a shield to prevent the funding from being cut-off or twist the nobles criticisms to her advantage.

As for her attendant/follower he is too naïve/pious to understand the machinations of noble politics and is awfully short-sighted in his attempts to aid people. Where he is quick to put a band-aid on a problem that requires much more nuance to fix.
