Ok I am a rookie but I want to try to help too.

For Kakao (page.kakao) :
  1. Go to the series page
  2. Press ctrl+maj+i ( inspect)
  3. You need to look for the image URL => open all the div sections :
4. Save that URL or open it in another tab
5. Remove "&filename=th3" from the URL.
For example:
Becomes :

Hope it helps !

Edit : You can increase the number after th.

ac.qq (Tencent Comics)

Firefox:
1. copy the image url (a simple right click on the image works)
2. Open the image in a new tab and open the network tab of the developer tools
3. Remove everything after the slash
4. Right click on the request and click "save image as"
image.png
6. remove the hyphen (-) at the end of the file name

image (1).png
7. save the image

Edge:
1. do step 1 & 3 of the firefox tutorial
2. right click the image
3. save the image (edge saved it as jfif for me and jpg for another tester :haa:)
4. convert the image to jpg if it's jfif (MD only allow png, jpg and gif)

Chrome:
1. do step 1 & 3 of the firefox tutorial
2. right click the image
3. save the image

Anyone have "official" steps from getting a cover from https://www.futabasha.co.jp/ other than opening the reader, right-clicking on the cover image, opening it in a new tab, and getting it from there?

Off-topic question, will this site be added to the "Retail Site" list for series information as their sell on their own instead of going through Bookwalker/Amazon/eBookJapan?

Not "instead" but "in addition" like any other publisher.

Edit: I can't even find "their" store. Here's random manga https://www.futabasha.co.jp/book/97800000136620000000 There's 16 links to 3rd-party stores. No "their" store :/ So no, they don't sell on their own.

For Kodansha US, go to the individual volume page for the cover art you want then right click on the image and open it in a new tab.
This will give you a thumbnail of the cover, with a URL ending in "SeriesName_VolumeNumber-0000x0000.jpg". The resolution of the thumbnail you're served varies based on browser zoom and monitor resolution, you can get anything from 300px to 2000px thumbnails. There's an original resolution image hidden in their backend, which you can't get to through normal site usage.
Take this link and remove "-0000x0000" from it, leaving you with "SeriesName_VolumeNumber.jpg". This is the highest resolution version of the cover available, and this is the one you should use.

For example;

Note: Some image filenames have "_cvr" in them, like "RentAGirlfriend_04_cvr-717x1024.jpg" - don't remove that, the correct slug for the full size cover is "RentAGirlfriend_04_cvr.jpg" and the same process can be followed.
Looks like with them launching their own store things have changed.
The thumbnails are now e.g. https://cdn.kodansha.us/statics/comics/2020/12/9781632369970-RentAGirlfriend_01.jpg?w=660&f=webp and to get a larger version strip everything after the jpg, i.e. https://cdn.kodansha.us/statics/comics/2020/12/9781632369970-RentAGirlfriend_01.jpg

BookWalker or BookWalker Global method to (usually) obtain a hi-res cover:
  1. Copy the thumbnail image URL, e.g. https://rimg.bookwalker.jp/7710085/6u1VY3UN~QyhkEGh4TxtSw__.jpg
  2. Take the ID and reverse it: 5800177
  3. Decrement the number by 1: 5800176
  4. Insert that number into this URL: http://c.bookwalker.jp/coverImage_5800176.jpg
  5. If you get an error or the wrong image, repeat steps 3&4
For the mobile version of the Japanese site this is simplified
  1. Copy the thumbnail URL, e.g. https://c.bookwalker.jp/thumbnailImage_5890239.jpg
  2. change “thumbnail” to “cover” and decrement the ID by one: https://c.bookwalker.jp/coverImage_5890238.jpg
  3. If you get an error or the wrong image, decrement the number by one again.
Bookwalker changed their URL format, the new thumbnail URLs are like this:

https://rimg.bookwalker.jp/e2a7aaf25cd09a8ba64e25ae59bc824/WYSt3oZAsOZeWLNOG6XDcw__.jpg

Best to use Roler's method for now or rip from another source.

It's still same method. BUT since BW stopped using "coverImage" files long-long-long time ago seems they stopped generating them.

Thumbnail from your quote (old format):

Thumbnail in old format:
https://c.bookwalker.jp/thumbnailImage_5800177.jpg

Thumbnail in your sample:
https://rimg.bookwalker.jp/e2a7aaf25cd09a8ba64e25ae59bc824/WYSt3oZAsOZeWLNOG6XDcw__.jpg
Thumbnail in old(new) format:
https://c.bookwalker.jp/thumbnailImage_428cb95ea52e46ab8a90dc52faa7a2e.jpg

Edit: "coverImage" files still exist for old titles posted/announced before mid-dec'2023.

“long long long” ago was around 6 weeks. There no way I know to convert the new thumbnail URLs (either the rimg. thumbs from the global or JP desktop site or c. thumbs from the JP mobile site) to full size covers.

No. Mid-dec'23 they stopped using decimal numbers and switched to hexa-decimal mumble.
I mean they stopped directly using "coverImage_xxxxx.jpg" files around 2018. Before that you was able to open book page -> right click thumbnail -> open image and you will get "coverImage" file. Around 2018-2019 BW switched to rimg server but coverImages for whatever reason were still present however they didn't used directly anywher on the site.

Could anyone tell me how you get a high quality cover rip from ridibooks? It seems like they exist in higher quality, but I can only find the image direct on their site in a medium size.
Like for example, if you look at Under the Oak Tree, the season 3 cover uploaded here on MD is 1440x2070, but if I go to ridi's page for it, all my smooth brain can find is
https://img.ridicdn.net/cover/4766000095/xxlarge#1
which is 480x696
Is there something I'm missing, or is that a larger version from the artist's twitter or something? I feel like it's likely the former.

Don't know if it's okay to answer here but...oh well, worst case just move my post.

Indeed, it's easier to find your link: https://img.ridicdn.net/cover/4766000095/xxlarge#1

You can just add ?dpi=xxxhdpi (with 3 "x") after it: https://img.ridicdn.net/cover/4766000095/xxlarge?dpi=xxxhdpi

But you only have an image 1280x~1840. Also you can look for another url with Image Max URL.

  3. If you get an error or the wrong image, decrement the number by one again.
Similar to the old BookWalker method (but easier) for newer books:
  1. Open the book page: https://bookwalker.jp/de392766e2-e05b-48de-8f0d-49191ebc3e59
  2. Find the "twitter:image" HTML metadata element (open devtools and search the page's HTML):
    HTML:
    <meta name="twitter:image" content="https://rimg.bookwalker.jp/311058a4d30244df8cc8abaf2bd4bebd/8jZE672RcEFF~lCnuOxAyarv~VLQGBpy89uilA9~v7Y_.png">
  3. Take the URL from the content value of the meta element: https://rimg.bookwalker.jp/311058a4...E672RcEFF~lCnuOxAyarv~VLQGBpy89uilA9~v7Y_.png
  4. Take the ID in the middle of the last two forward slashes from the URL: 311058a4d30244df8cc8abaf2bd4bebd
  5. Insert the ID into this URL (like in the old method): https://c.bookwalker.jp/coverImage_311058a4d30244df8cc8abaf2bd4bebd.jpg
