Went back and reread Ch.4 and I feel like I missed something in between? Ch. 4 left off with Rio arriving at his home and asking how Erika knows where his home is, and in Ch. 5 then we jumped to Erika and her friends at school (after what's presumably a flashback?). Am I just dumb?

Oh yeah, it should be even clearer in the next chapter, i think.
But this chapter turns back time before Erika went to Rio's, that's why Horii is still smug af not knowing what fate befalls his father

What an unexpected and welcome surprise, I hope you also took some vacation in the meantime, I like this chapter, thought I think I will have to re-read it to appreciate the story, it seems more "lore focused" compared to the visual spectacle of the previous one, we got a bit more of an insight of the people around Erika, how she found him which also shows once more how she doesn't back down despite her limited resources.

I am curious to see how the way she plays in Dark Souls connects to real life, if we are meant to take it just her being stubborn, (67 retries, I never had to go through so many with people honestly), I gotta re-read all the chapters, I think I got too complacent with Manga that spells out things (multiple times) to readers eh eh.

Connection between Dark Souls & the real life actually been teased a bit in the Vol. 1 omake, but that one isn't available anywhere because i only sell it during convention in my country XD
But it will be shown soon enough :>

As much as i'm influenced by Ryukishi07's works, i really tried to show some answers to the first volume's questions in the second volume (chapter 5 to 10). But, due to my limited resources, i'm unable to stretch it more like Ryukishi07 lol.
But yeah, now that you mentioned it, it does feels like we're opening the lore layer bit by bit here in this chapter.

Honestly i can't wait to show you chapter 7
