And yeah, Will, that's not Ange nor Gena, please run away :nyoron:

From everything we've seen, the Professor's assertion that humans have consciousness and AI don't seems at best inaccurate for Ange/Gena, if not wholly incorrect.
But that's the thing, right? if they don't have a consciousness, but their ai is so advanced that it seems like they do, how would we be able to tell a difference? Better yet, would it even matter?

Sure, but she isn't saying "we can't tell if Gena/Ange are conscious", she's saying "Gena/Ange aren't conscious" which seems entirely unjustified.

This is the actual question. It's not about whether or not robots have consciousness. The fact remains that the human consciousness is just a product of the physiology of our brains. If a computer can replicate consciousness to a degree that is indistinguishable from humans, then is there really a difference between the consciousness produced by a computer or our brains?

this is such a pho point as there is no question

yes, there is a difference, a computer is doing it with purpose and not as an unconscious randomized response like a human brain does it, at best you can compare how a computer creates such things to how a psychopath does so but a psychopath will still have human folly to screw with it during low points... you cant stress a computer out to the point it suffers folly, you can only overload it with junk to burst a logic gate somewhere

you can also overload a human brain with junk and cause a seizure

Neither computers nor humans are "doing it with purpose" nor "unconscious randomized responses". Both are fundamentally a housing with functionality which runs through transferring and storing electrical circuits (wires/neurons) which allow them to process inputs, store responses to stimuli, keep things in memory, etc.

A lot of people can't grasp that, at a fundamental level, we are all atoms. So is a computer. Eventually, computers will just be functional humans made of different atoms.
I'm reminded of how the game Soma uses the simulation of human consciousness as it's primary theme. If that were possible, how would someone like that respond? It's a human consciousness running on a emulated brain, and is so advanced that they aren't even aware they're emulations.

if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck and has the deep and complex philosophical worries of a duck, its probably a duck.
