Been years since I read about it, so I might be off on some of the details here and also not sure how true it is, but tentacle monsters in hentai came about because it was essentially taboo to depict a female with multiple partners back in the day (talking about 70's or 80's era Japan). Tentacles became a way of doing multiple penetrations while adhering to the single partner rule.
