agreed AGREED THERE'S NO PURPOSE OF ABUSING THE MC, (to me at least) IT'S NOT FUNNY, IT'S NOT ENTERTAINING WHEN IT HAPPENS, THERE'S NO POINT OF THIS "MC ABUSE" TROPE

One Piece does a good job with it, at least when any of the Straw Hats gets smacked by Nami, it's cause they deserved it for doing/saying stupid shit which happens often, and it's actually funny

In a world of magic, physically checking a mark like that seems to be the least reliable method. Especially when the one your checking has magical powers AND wants to hide that mark.

I've probably been reading one piece longer than you've been alive. And I can tell you right now, there is nothing Luffy or anyone on the crew have done to deserve being brutally abused by someone who is supposed to be a close friend. Unless you think it's cool to beat your homies over trivial matters?

Seems like the whole point of it was to set up that axe kick.
On one hand, and in the interest of covering everything, Sonia didn't tell Junpei to dive into her crotch as he did--he wouldn't need to do that to see the mark, but he did anyway.
On the other hand, and given his positioning on that table, only the JP author's pen kept Sonia's axe kick from breaking Junpei's neck or worse. Sonia would have killed a guy she has nothing to do with for being perverted with another girl who barely minds the act herself. It's the latest of a LONG tradition of extremely violent--and excessive in the fact that it's violent to begin with--realizations of feminine displeasure paired with a flagrant lack of self-awareness done for slapstick, with the accompanying accusation against those who write such events still hitting its mark to this day: they would never tolerate a man doing the same to a woman.
I used to think that this was written because of a deeply held idea that women cannot harm men, while men should be able to take everything a woman throws at him. (This is quite ironic, BTW, as JP authors have been making their MCs effeminate/devoid of proper masculinity for years, now.) This is probably still the case to some degree, but I think it's also because of rampant masochism among JP authors. A lot of them are effeminate in this way (among others), and they share this state with plenty of their fellows in the anime, manga, and related hobbies--in Japan and outside (think of all the guys you can find online saying they want some sexualized violent woman or another to inflict violence on them, for just one example).
A lot of JP creators seem to get off on the idea of being beaten up by girls, and it stems from their age-old taste for being rejected by girls--one that's still very much alive (the 100% tsuntsun "tsundere", for example).

Sure, keep spewing more lies, you don't read One Piece and it's obvious, no amount of gaslighting is gonna convince me otherwise
You say it's undeserving but you forget the type of person Luffy is, he's one of my favorite MCs and even I can acknowledge when he deserves the smacks, lol "trivial matter" his stupidity tends to put the whole crew's lives at risk, you're out of your mind if you still think Luffy doesn't deserve to get smacked from time to time. Nami ain't even the only one who does the smacking either, thanks for proving that you don't actually read/watch the series
