Hajime is so…..accepting………it’s definitely the part of him that’s most cut out to be a host. but why did Sen’ichi bring him along there

personally, I’m fond of translator’s notes of any kind. I think they add a kind of warmth/texture, and unpaid translations are always a labor of love. I guess it gives that nostalgic old internet feeling.
my only preference is translators not making jokes right under the panels in the manga (though honestly when you’re reading some schlock it’s kinda fun….like they’re there with you reacting…) and not adding any Super Edgy Offensive Jokes at the end (it’s so annoying to have a manga you can’t recommend because the translator’s panel edit jokes are transphobic or weird)

but honestly, when I read series without any translator’s notes, I often feel like something is missing. especially for more odd or complex manga, I like to at least be able to click into the mangadex thread and see some commentary from the translator on how they felt about a chapter.

anyways, I really enjoy this team’s notes and drawings. they’re like a special omake for the English language version

The "Nothing but Nos" compilation reminds me of those youtube channels dedicated to clips of female characters in cartoons sneezing or having swirly eyes or holding their breaths underwater. Interesting that this kind of thing exists across the world and across time periods. All men are brothers, I suppose.

I was really moved by the endpage essay on translation. I wanna say that I deeply appreciate the work the both of you do to bring this manga to us in English. In the English-speaking animanga space, and especially on sites like this that seem like an endless well of niche translated manga, it's easy to take translations for granted, not thinking twice of the effort and personal choices that go into translating a manga of any format, popularity, tone, or genre. The observation that snarky t/l notes are an attempt to fight against the "invisibility" of the role seem very apt, whether or not the choice is done conciously. I've always thought of translation as an art similar to sound design, where the idea is that "when it's done well, you don't even notice it," and it can feel unrewarding or discouraging to work on such an invisible art. IMO, it's one of those things where the solution to these efforts being overlooked is less about changing the works themselves, but moreso about altering the culture and platforms around them to highlight these efforts. I like how MangaDex allows for endpages that allow translator's notes, for example, but wouldn't it be cool if official platforms like MangaPlus or the VIZ website had an area for translator's notes as well?? Wouldn't have to like, lurk on the translator's twitters or anything. Not sure where I'm going with this but yeah translation is a really fascinating field. I think it neat.

Thank you... The Shitty Awful Guys... for everything...

Once to a friend I said this is the one manga translation with endpages as funny as the manga they're for. I stand by that, and I think it has to do with them being pretty in-step with the original manga's sense of humor. Humor is subjective (that's why jokey t/l notes are so risky, and all), but if you're already reading and enjoying Everyday Host those endpages will be up your alley.

Boodle and Moople im your biggest fan. i think the fact that you let the manga speak without interrupting but also make a fully bespoke bonus page at the end with cute drawings and funny jokes is just so wonderful. other groups have a lot on their hands maybe so thats why they got the same bonus page for every chapter, but it feels like i'm getting an ads pamphlet stuck in the middle of a book. when it comes to you guys i'm always looking forward to the last page and it always puts a smile on my face. translation is a wonderful job and i hope you stick around with this same energy in the future!
