If anything this proves that the Pope was really trying to do his best to clean up all the rot that was going on in the Church, though it seems it was too late at this point to stop Vergil from falling into the cracks and also others from being abused and now this near world ending scenario

No, it's not and no, it's nobody's first time being faced with blatant historical revisionism. Sodomy was illegal in Japan even before it was Japan. Nah.... I knew it already from very first time when i was an otaku in 2010's era. But in that era most of manga or anime about Gay or Lesbian are not that very common to see, well... IDK pretty well because my most watched and read ani-manga is mostly Romance and Ecchi Harem but I do remember is Japan in 2010's ani-manga are not very common with BL and GL genres
