Dear Scanlators

We are a Swiss start-up called FairManga.
FairManga is an online platform that aims to make manga globally available in various languages. By offering smaller artists a cost-efficient and low risk translation, we hope to promote the manga we love around the world while reducing piracy and supporting the manga artists and publishers.

And of course, as a translator, you are also part of the game!

We are currently in contact with several publishers to promote legal English versions of their manga. As you have translated many manga before, we thought you might be interested in the opportunity to take part in creating official translations of their work.

As a translator at FairManga you can earn up to 10% of the revenue generated from the title you translated. On top of that, if you become a verified translator with over five titles, we will also provide you with a free subscription.

Does that sound interesting? If so, please fill out this google form https://forms.gle/wFrp9c36ewyhLRZo9

If you wish to remain anonymous, do not reply to this message. Just go straight to the form and make sure to fill in a name that is not associated with scanlating. This way we won't be able to trace back what scanlator group you came from.

We are looking for people who can handle the whole process of translating (translating, editing, typesetting). However, we are well aware that most people don’t do everything on their own and usually are only responsible for one of the tasks. If you are interested in working with your previous team members, just fill out the form and let us know in the comments section that you would like to work with them. All members need to fill out the form but it would be helpful if you could decide on a representative of the group who will be our main contact person. All members should mention the name of that person in the comment section of the form so we know what group you belong to.

Should you have any questions or comments, feel free to talk to us either here or in the designated section of the form.

We are looking forward to your application and wish you a Happy New Year!

Kind regards,
Miryam Lahyani

Well people are discussing this and...

A lot of people think this is a scam. Quite frankly it does sound like one.

How many copies are you expecting to sell? Anyone working would have to cover the costs of software and fonts, otherwise they would be illegally using them. Will you cover those costs?
What are the deadlines and frequency of work expected to be?
Are you working with large publishers or doujin authors?
Sounds like it's going to be a hot mess, just like all the other small pubs created with no experience with the localization process.

And do you have a better form of contact than a telephone number? Ain't no one gonna make an international phone call.

Hello everyone,

Just quickly wanted to address the problem of legitimacy.
We completely understand a stranger on the internet is not particularly trustworthy so it is only natural some of you are doubting our intentions.
However, please do not judge this project based on its incompleteness. We openly admit this project is in no way complete and if we succeed or not actually depends on you the translators.
We are no business men but manga fans just like you who hope to create a platform that supports the manga artists as well as gives an opportunity to talented translators to legally work together with their favorite artist.
Since it is hard to prove our legitimacy through a forum post we are open to answering any questions you may have through either DMs or email (miryam.lahyani@fairmanga.com).
If you comment on this post we will contact you through DMs and reply to your questions there.
For those interested, we can also schedule an online meeting, as it is easier to answer questions directly and it also helps build trust if you can put a face behind the name.
Hope this explanation helps and looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Miryam
