@mukade He is. It was mentioned in the character introduction at the beginning of this chapter that he is using Arthirea as a substitute for her mother Efinia, who was his half sister(based on what the marriage chart shows). I don't remember for certain if it was mention in the previous chapters, but this suggests that he cared for his half sister greatly and, along with the info about the wet nurse, it also suggests that Arthirea's mother is no longer among the living.

On a side note, while both Arthirea and Nadir are cousins, they are technically half-cousins. Cousin marriages weren't that uncommon during medieval times, but the fact that they are half-cousins means there's even less concern about potential complications for their children due to inbreeding, a concern that I believe was still brought up during those times.(I know you didn't ask, but I figured I'd mention it anyway since we were on the topic of why the king is obsessed with Arthirea and how the two are related.)

The fact that he's talking about worrying about "breaking her" and her considering him to be a father-like figure while being literally carried around like a child... don't jive well for me. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it felt a little uncomfortable.

I wish this isekai went the way "the MC remember his past life", instead of "the MC takes over the body of a child that died".

Arthirea had a shitty life because she was chosen as the prince's consort, lived as a "doll" because of trauma, then died only for her body to be taken over by Maya after she was "rescued".

I like Maya, but I can't enjoy this manga as much as, for instance, "My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!" or other manga where the MC is the original "soul" of their bodies, and not someone that happens to inhabit that body once the original "owner" dies miserably.

So, poor little Arthirea, I'm raising my glass in memory of you.
