yes, he confesses to Elrise, but at almost the very end of the story before they confront Alexia and get rejected, full training path happens after the final battle is over, so it's not entirely because of Elrise rejection

as I said up there, Vernell will discover and confess to Elrise at almost the end of the story, he won't go around saying Elrise is the fake saint

Elrise will reveal that she's a fake saint and die because she kills the witch, but no one accuses her of being a fake saint, instead, they give Elrise the title of the great saint
