pretty decent, but don't get baited by the Romance tag since romance in this is dogshit. MC is pretty annoying at times, comedy is pretty good. And as the commenter below me said, this manga REALLY ahead of it's time(1997) with the issues that was portrayed and tackled

I have to say I really enjoyed this series front to back. It really felt ahead of it's time for 1996 but still very much a part of how Japanese culture in general views gender, sex, and even homosexuality in the 90s. There is some stuff that is pretty cringe by today's standard but overall this one was very special to me.

I personally love Hojo Tsukasa’s works and this is no exception! Its an amazing story with many comedic moments and surprises. Unfortunately, I have to agree with other commenters that the romance leaves more to be desired. I’ll also warn you that the ending could leave more to be desired. IMHO it feels like the mangaka’s either got tired of this series and wanted to move on. A commenter on another platform said that they were disappointed when information that seemed relevant came up once and was never brought up for the rest of the story; despite it’s potential to expand lore and opening new chapters. Also, don’t expect much character development until the last volume. Despite all it’s flaws, I enjoyed the series and had a blast reading it. The pictures are provocative and realistic. The scans have likely improved since 2018 since I didn’t find any issues with them (or my standards for good is just low). It’s just so different than what’s in current day mainstream works. I would DEFINITELY recommend giving it a try if you haven’t already read it!

I loved this manga, its silly and fun and good trans rep... for its time... if you approach it with the awareness that its abit dated theres alot to enjoy, assuming you like family sitcoms, or queer stories. However I did have some sticking points that frustrated me.
The ending isn't bad but clearly written cause the other had to move onto other work. Its a thematic little ending that ties some things together but most plot points are untouched and left open.
As others have said the romance is lacking. To be honest I dont find it important as the romance doesn't feel like a focus thats done poorly, but moreso a side plot that matters occasionally but is mostly just used for comedy. However I did find it an active detriment at times. Yoko, the mc's girlfriend, is actively insufferable. She is the most transphobic main/side cast member and its never addressed. She also constantly tries to seduce other men to prove shes hot and the mc isn't "man" enough to make a move on her.
The story treats her as if shes in the right for this, and while yes the mc is a coward that never makes any real effort to be a good partner, his actions get addressed and punished, but hers are mostly just brushed aside. Also she gets in the way of the mc and any potential exploration of his queerness, if he has any.
As the manga stands the mc is firmly a cis man who is forced to cross-dressing occasionally for the plot. When he does so he is noted to be generally happy and outgoing, seemingly enjoing himself. However he constantly complains about cross-dressing, due to mostly yoko not liking it. Due to this fact it can feel like he only ever presents as he's told, cross-dressing for other characters cause they ask, then taking it off for her cause she does. Not that he has any strong feelings either way.
This just feeds into the issue of the mc feeling like a coward or a wimp, who just goes along with the plot and more intresting characters that force him to play along with their shenanigans. Its not an ever present issue, but its one that I felt enough to note.
Ik this may seem like a long list of bads but I do believe that they are heavily outweighed by the goods, every single queer character bar one is realistic and fun to read, feeling like a real person with depth and an accurate portrayal. The queer cast is allowed to be human, they can be messy and bad people at times, but its balanced in equal part by the main cast, the family at the heart of the series who are both unabashedly queer and put together, a loving father and mother who seem so stereotypically enderingly perfect, who just happen to be trans. This mix lets it feel real, queer life isnt perfect, it can be messy, but it also isnt inherently unhealthy. Its just life.
It can be a very familiar read at times, but a good one, especially from the time it was written. Yes it has its issues and yes some things can be seen as "problematic" because of the time it was written in but it really doesn't matter when so clearly there is alot of heart put in and theres this level of care put in the portrayal of these characters. I fullheartedly reccomend this manga for anyone whos been looking for any queer stories, or just a fun family sitcom. The heart heavily outweighed any of my complaints.
