Assuming the novel told from the villainess's point of view, then her anger and despair with her father comes down to his spoiling her remotely and never once showing actual affection in person. Gonna go out on a limb and say my "curse" theory is still valid in some shape or form.

Addendum: I'm going to assume that in the original "final scene," Daddy couldn't actually tell his daughter the plan to get her out of there since they'd be watched the whole way (the king did say he didn't trust him), but he so was used to having things go "just as planned" with his student's help that the huge factor he's apparently overlooked for nigh-on two decades (his daughter assuming he hated/didn't care about her) flipped the proverbial table. I'm sure her terror about being subject to torture came from the Crown Prince's reputation and the aggression he showed charging in just sealed the deal. Ya done fucked up, son. Both of you.

Actually, imagining Max realizing his attitude, which his teacher has been warning about for YEARS, caused the critical mission failure amuses me, because he hasn't done much for me to like him at this point.

Could someone please explain why so many stories have family that is neglectful, but actually care a lot? They don't show it at all and actually actively go out of their way to be hateful, but that's not how they feel?

Dudes still a shitty dad. Either he doesn't have the emotional capacity to tell his daughter he loves her or he's just an incredibly busy guy with a deadpan face who is oblivious to the fact that his actions have directly caused his daughter to develop issues which would probably require therapy to deal with.

As a side note, I honestly preferred the promo, because IIRC that wasn't a reincarnation/isekai but a time reversal or whatever. Kinda weird to have the reincarnation thing if its literally never gonna come up, unless the point was to show that she doesn't share any of the issues the daughter had. But that just makes this all the more fucked up if we see the cliché character development in the father because it would mean he was a shitty father to his actual daughter who he never expressed affection for, but to some fucking stranger that looks like his daughter he'll actually show his love
