I think the father liked Mikhail because Juvel liked him. I also think that the father gave the sword not for suicide but for protection. She misunderstood it because of her awkward relationship with the father. That is also probably why he said to endure it for now, maybe he had a plan before she killed herself.

Yeah, no. Not buying it. "I will protect her by never being in the same room as her, not talking to her, not listening to rumors about her, ignoring that her fiancee dislikes her, ignoring that he is cheating on her, not defending her when she is accused of a crime with little evidence, throwing her in a cell with no explanation and just a dagger, and generally behaving exactly like a neglectful father who feels nothing for her. Because I love her so much." Like, what was he even supposed to be protecting her from that required so much attention that he couldn't spend time with her?

@mangaluvR46 i also thinking the same thing when the first time i read 1st chapter.
Coz, if her father want her to commit suicide he wouldn't tell her to "Endure It". He would say something else instead.

@Kynnath for someone that has a trouble expressing his own emotion its harder to show affection or something like that especially if they are always busy with work. They tend to try to make it up with materialistic thing because they don't know how to approach the other person.
Well i know how the FL father feel coz i already in his shoes once. Even after years together with my ex gf. One time i got a bit busy and end up neglected her. Trying to make it up with buying her what she want etc. In the end we broke up. Because she thought i was changed and didn't care or love her anymore. I can't even explain myself as to why i acted like that for the last few months cause what ever i say would sounds like an excuses

@Kynnath Um, read the manhwa till the end to know why the father needs to protect her in that manner and what exactly is he protecting her from?

@Kynnath i dunno man

maybe there are some reason why he looks mean to her

back then we just see from her and the og novel reader's Pov, what about her father's Pov? he is just a side character and the og novel not even cover his PoV and what he thinks

remember in this kind of settings sometime og Novel reader Pov not always cover the whole story much detail about each of characters

i mean if he is a total asshole, he can do way much worse, instead he still let her simping and give her lavish lifestyle, and he didn't mind about her shitty behaviour tho, i've seen more asshole and bastard family in other stories who did worse than this

there are some parents who looks cold to their children but actually care about them and their future, some of them can't or hard communicate with their kids, and if they did so, mostly caused misunderstanding (like most of asian parents did), they looks like neglecting their kids but actually try everything to protect their kids, it's not like their kids are ignorant, but sometime it hard to be shown

but if you still stick to that, it's ok 😉😉😉😉

everyone has their own judgment 😁😁😁😁

@aiebime No spoilers please, but yes, I noticed there's something weird about exactly how the emperor is controlling him, and what hold he has over her since she seems unaware. Her fainting for three days over a bit of stress might also be related.
@yudh08 Even if we give the duke the benefit of the doubt and forgive his cold treatment as necessary or his inability to express emotions, there's still a lot of glaring failures on his part. He could have pretended to be cold, but still kept track of how she was doing by having people watch over her. Did he not know her boyfriend treated her like crap? Did he not know she had no friends, had a terrible reputation, and as a result was entirely isolated from society? These weren't big secrets either. And yet, he doesn't even appear to be aware of it. And we know he's not aware, because it isn't until he learns she was actually crying that he decides to change his behavior. Meaning, he didn't realize how much she was hurting until he overheard a maid being shocked by it. Did he think being in a one-sided obsessive relationship with a guy that didn't give two shits about her would make her happy, or did he not know how messed up her relationship was despite it not being a secret?

And the fact that he changes his behavior shows he didn't need to be cold before either. Otherwise, wouldn't he still need to be cold even if he learns she's crying? Why would her feelings change the relationship between him, her, and whatever hold the emperor has on him? If he couldn't even afford to have breakfast with her because protecting her required that he remain distant, why would he suddenly be allowed to have breakfast with her now? And if he could have had breakfast with some frequency before, why didn't he?

am i messed up because i would have realy liked to see the situation after she committed suicide with the dukes personal shortsword because the prince came to "interrogate" her
and that since chapter 1 because the princes attempt to stop her was a bit too desperate

@Kynnath
well she was a bit too obsessed in the first timeline his intervention in her relationship wouldnt have helped, something which he knew because he noticed that he committed too many mistakes in raising her.
one of my friends is also emotionally handy capped so in the first stages of his relationship i needed to translate for him quite a bit and will probably need to do so again when his son grows up because on his own he cam quite close to quit trying for good a few times
problem is the duke didnt have someone that translated for him or gave him a well-meaning well-deserved kick in the ass

so i guess he tried to help her without intervening by isolating her in the prison to prevent revenge attempts and arranged for his student who was also the princesses brother to be the interrogator to prevent her being abused and tortured with the shortsword being the mark for the prince to recognize who she is protected by

but well this is not an attempt to exhonorate him its just a possible explanation that shouldn't lessen his guilt but merely tries to show possible intentions
he still failed hard at being a parent because he stopped trying to connect with his child...
i dont remember who said it but i think it ring true here: its always bad when parents feel unwanted by their children but the real tragedy occurs when children feel unwanted by their parents

@Roadrunner9000 I also would like to see the result of the other time line. I bit of personal vindication for being so bad a fathering. Like you can be cold and sit & eat meals with/ask questions with/escort to balls without being super lovey dovey.

Such a doting father.

A shame he sucks at expressing his meanings.
