Maybe the father asked the crown prince to protect her daughter in his stead, that why he said in the first chapter "endure it" so basically he cares for her daughter

Kinda weird so many of y'all are just saying just trust the dad now. I dunno how a couple moments erase a lifetime of neglect, and that's ignoring the alternate timelines throwing away of his daughter (which obviously has more to it, but even there the character saw him as neglectful and uncaring.)

idk if its just a poorly executed trope but this is nonsensical to me. the whole premise is that a girl (the 'original') has been so emotionally neglected and ridiculed for 18(?)+ years, to the point where it became a personality disorder.
but then comes Reincarnated FL and the father is....just not at all like the premise dictates? at least not to the point where his daughter would be viscerally afraid of him. we were told that the father was so uncaring that his own child became convinced they were being told to kill themself. That is FUCKED up! just being awkward with affection doesn't explain it away. maybe he's just nice now bc she doesn't have the old rotten personality that he contributed to? that's also fucked up lmao

i dunno, i just think the whole "he truly cared all along!" is really shallow and naive writing

Current hypothesis: Both father and daughter are idiots when it comes to relationships and particularly each other. The father would rather order a mouse caught and killed rather than explain to his daughter about her misunderstanding. And the daughter is incapable of understanding her father's silent & awkward affection, misinterpreting it as neglect and "just keeping up appearances". Not to mention her failed attempt at one-upmanship at the blacksmith's.

@MondSemmel well the person currently in daughter's body is someone who never actually got a chance to get context on the relationship between the father and daughter so it's understandable she's thinking he's neglectful. how he presents himself and how he acts really doesn't help him either. i can get why she's hesitating to try and clear up any misunderstandings because she legit doesn't get this man's mindset. him on the otherhand, yea he might just be bad at relationships.

@enmpress i'm enjoying this so far but i won't lie, i am scratching my head here at this. maybe the father has some genuine disorder that's contributing to how he treated her, but that's just me guessing. there's also the possibility that rather than simply being reborn in the world of the novel, she's been reborn in a world that's strikingly similar, but the characters themselves are different. (that's probably a stretch though, but it wouldn't be the first time i've seen a twist like that)

The father just seems social inept to me, both the original and now. I don't think he wanted to hurt her in the original, but was trying to save her from execution.

what the hell ever bro this dude sucks you can't just say "he's so soft regarding his daughter" right after setting up the setting that he has never paid any attention to her. that's just weak ass writing right there
