It can gets much worse, they went all out in a gang war, those get really nasty and have a tendency to run for quite a long time, depending on how things turn out they may have to leave their house, and lose a couple family members, and who even knows in what state they will leave Joao depending on how much time passes before they rescue him
It is looking quite hopeless

While I enjoy the original premise, I have no idea where the author is going with this. Realistically, it would end with all the main characters dead. And it's more about crime rather than manga making. Unless they win a lottery and move to Japan or smth, they all are cooked.
And I am not talking about current kidnapping, but their situation in general. Kinda hard to draw when you are being shot at at daily basis.
