I can already tell that Yuki will be a pain in the ass to deal with, but i guess he is there to allow the audience (the Japanese readership) an anchor that the protagonist as an adult author type of character can't offer

Yuki reminds me of a lot of Latino-Japanese friends where I live. I don't like how he was so mean but it does make me a little relieved to see a half Japanese character that doesn't have the non-Japanese features standout in their faces.

It's still pretty accurate, though.

São Paulo has one of the largest Japanese communities outside of Japan, and poor people really are despised and exploited by the middle and upper income classes - there's even a saying that goes like this: in Brazil, the only crime is being poor.
It's more a criticism of the (extremely biased) justice system, but still reflects the country's society pretty well.
