This character type is strange to me. I think there's a limit to how much of a free spirit someone can be when they suffer from hunger and cold, thirst or heat.

A vagrant is usually competent at surviving that lifestyle or has a bigger problem that prevents them from moving on, like drugs or severe ptsd, or no remaining family and friends... I digress.

I think it's a bit different for characters in a story like this because the universe sorta helps balance their checkbook.

For most characters they have a default amount of money they're supposed to have and if they gain or lose a bunch of it the universe makes sure they return to default level pretty quickly.

For this character it sounds like they're set to consistently yo-yo between rich and poor. They can be carefree because the money always comes back eventually.

Man, you have way more literacy about this than me. Thanks for the insights, I was going to drop this but now I think I'll read a bit more.
