@brynreich At the start of manga Jitae was ~170 cm and ~55 kg. Now he is ~180 cm and ~75 kg. Is it possible to grow so much and gain so much muscle in this short amount of time (under a year)? Unlikely, but possible. I grew 15 cm in one year and a guy I know was gaining one pound of muscle per week, natty, without steroids, during his newbie gains phase, in highschool Jitae probably inherited monster genes from his father, has late growth sprout and has maximum natural testosterone levels.

Every time I pop in on this, it has gotten more batshit. Not sure the author really has a clear direction for the story.

His Dad's monster gene are really showing now. JI-Eun blames herself but I feel like this was inevitable. I'm kinda wondering about his sister. I fear once he finds her, his father would have turn her into monster fighter too.

The goofballs and the students are the ones that made everything boring for me. Although they were entertaining at times. I’m happy they are showing jiu ji tae going through training so he can enter fight class 3 and hopefully find his sister at the end.

@Grim4531 I respect your opinion and I hope the story delivers what you're looking for, since it's sure not doing anything for me, aha.

And here I was when I started the series thinking it'd be another, underdog sports story, damn wtf.

Jesus I went though raw webtoon ver weeks ago and when I saw those scars on Ji-Tae torso I thought like "wow dam is it from selfharm or The Ogre training?" but I didn't manage to make out what was happeing in last page in webtoon so I couldn't answer my question. Now it is clear as day what these scars are from self-harm which makes situation even worse.... poor dude he totally really losing his last bits of sanity. I hope he manages to see light in the dark, I wish someone was able to help him, he really needs it.

Damn! One of my favorite aspects of this series is the way previous events are recontextualized the further we dive into the story.

Let me start by saying the flashback in this chapter, while pretty emotional, doesn't tell us anything new about Ji-tae other than the extent of his PTSD in the form of haphephobia (fear of physical contact).

Before crossing paths with Maria, Jitae was doing his best at trying to live a normal life despite having to deal with the trauma of losing his sister and being assaulted by his father. The deeper he gets into the world of fighting, the more his emotional scars become apparent.

However, all the signs of him being a broken child were there from the very beginning of the story. The curveball thrown by the author was that at first, all these things were framed as a positive source of motivation. But now we can see them as clear symptoms of self-loathing and PTSD that are rapidly turning into Borderline Personality Disorder caused by the massive contrast between what he believes in and what he must do in order to find his beloved sister. This plus the notion of him being weak and useless being ingrained in both his heart and mind with every shortcoming, loss or failure.

This chapter also confirms what was previously implied about the loss to Young-joon and the incident with Maria resulting in his breaking point. The fact not a single person was able to give him comfort at his lowest, or the reassurance he wasn't weak or useless, it's pretty sad. Not Maria (she actually did the opposite) and not Ji-eun because she didn't want him to change. So in the end he felt alone and hopeless, which ultimately drove him into despair.

Since then, it seems Ji-tae is fighting with the mindset of accepting death as the punishment for losing (Just as Maria told him when she berated him). And guess what? When he was fighting Young-woong in the sewer, he acknowledged that if he let go of the armbar he would die. What happened? He let go and lost consciousness so, in his mind, he couldn't do it alone, was useless once again, and should have died. But Maria saved him.

TLDR: The guy is pretty much suicidal right now.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm very greatly looking forward to Ji-eun's role in Ji-tae's "recovery". I don't think she's just going to be a tool for exposition (though she naturally has that role too as Ji-tae's childhood friend). Ji-eun has consistently been one of the very few people willing to stand up to Maria, and she's always ready to take action for the sake of her friends (e.g. Ok-dong's situation), so with this chapter's revelation on what she should've done I can see her back in the game, and possibly even an ideological battle against Maria's teachings + Ji-tae's self-loathing.

Also nice note that this chapter explains why Maria was having such a hard time tracking Ji-eun's punches back in chapter 60

Also there's very little I appreciate more than seeing @mylastchance89 give throwbacks to previous chapters and relevant areas, it really makes me re-think everything I've read so far and makes me appreciate just how good the author is

@ramzy No problem! Given the biweekly schedule is easy for some readers to forget some early details about the story. That's why I always recommend giving the first half of the series a reread every once in a while. It really makes you notice a lot of stuff that might have gone over your head the first time.

@BasilD Thanks for the kind words man. I just love discussing the series. Also, good eye noticing the little detail about Ji-eun punches. I really appreciate the level of attention to detail 2hakkk puts in the story. Even for such minor things.

No wonder Maria was in trouble, Ji-eu basically trained with the master dodger himself lol

Idk what he tried with that last panel, what I see in there is him just not caring anymore and trying to force himself to find it ok to get any type of stimuli in the worst way possible, see last panel, its like your mental health has detoriated to a point where you have reached that level of insanity that rivals the one thing you wanted to destroy, your father.
